Dreadful. The mystery itself is far from mysterious—I had it figured out very early on—but the tone in which it is written is what really sinks this book. The unions and “common people” distrust the government only because they are manipulated into it by criminals, the government itself is filled with kind and upstanding men, and the criminals are cowards who enjoy writing grand declarations of their dastardly ways. Pah!
The only saving grace to the book is the pair of Tuppence and Tommy, although even their charms fade by the overly pat ending.

Time for an embarrassing truth: it has taken a quarter of a century for me to read my first Agatha Christie book. I’ve always been curious, but for some reason I’ve constantly picked up other books instead.
Although The Secret Adversary had me hooked and eager to see how things came together, I didn’t quite love it in the way I had hoped. It was interesting, but I expected more from Agatha Christie after all the good things I’ve heard. At the very least, I expected to be shocked by the outcome; alas, I worked it out quite easily.
Many agree this is not the best example of the author’s work, so I have high hopes that when I dive into some of the author’s other work that I will enjoy it more. There is no doubt this was enjoyable; I was just hoping for a wee bit more.

I've now read my first Tommy and Tuppence novel. From my understanding Tommy and Tuppence actually age through the books unlike Christie's other detective, so I decided to start with the first of their stories.
Tommy and Tuppence are childhood friends who cannot find work after World War I. They decide to start their own business as The Young Adventurers. They stumble upon their first job involving a missing treaty and a missing woman. At times it seems like Tommy and Tuppence are in over their heads.
Tommy and Tuppence are both likeable characters and a joy to read. However, the story didn't hit the mark for me. Spy fiction doesn't particularly interest me. I will continue to read Tommy and Tuppence novels in the hopes that I like the others better as I do like the characters.
I definitely did not guess the murderer. I thought I did and thought I was so clever. In reality I suspected the person Christie wanted me to suspect to keep me from guessing the real murderer.
Tommy and Tuppence #1. A good story, first one with little bit of romance :)
I liked the plot even though i didnt get clue on what was there in those precious documents (so that England could burn it!!!!), neglecting that, the twists were awesome... It was a good read :)

A fun and exciting tale with clever twists and turns you won’t be able to predict!

Aamiin.
