This early book of Christie's was a really fun romp. I was surprised as it was really more Espionage than Mystery, although there was a mystery involved.
This was new for me as I usually think of espionage books as being set in either WWII or the Cold War so reading one set post-WWI was a nice change. However, this setting also made the plot hard to follow as I'm not very familiar with either the politics at that time or the sinking of the Lusitania. Being written at the time, Christie doesn't really give much exposition but assumes that the reader is familiar with these events. This, coupled with the fact that I listened to this on audiobook, meant that I was quite frequently a bit lost as to what was happening.
However, a triumph of this book is its two protagonists. They were both fantastic characters in their own right and the will they / won't they bickering was charming to read. I don't often enjoy romantic subplots but this one was done really well. I'm also happily surprised that they got together at the end as while I enjoyed the will they / won't they I don't think it could have been sustained an extended series
I look forward to reading more of Tommy and Tuppence's adventures.

As usual, Miss Agatha had me over a barrel! Anyone who hasn't tried the Tommy and Tuppence series might want to try this first book in the series.

WHAT. A. RIDE!!!
I wanted to give 4.5 stars but whatever.
This was an emotional roller coaster for me. I had to stop after reading every few chapters to take a breath. The thrill! Starting around 50% into the book I kept screaming to Tuppence and Tommy "Do not trust anyone!!!!" but they didn't listen to me. Thankfully they did not disappoint.
But about the ending, I feel that the bit about the brown book of "the criminal mastermind's confession" seems forced. Even to know about John Doe's motive in Se7en police had to gone through possibly hundreds of his journals. Quite weird if from only ONE journal you can find everything. Journal is not a biography.
And oh, don't even get me started aboutJulius's proposal to Jane and that she accepted right away??! Just don't.

I don' know how it happened but I didn't know that Agatha Christie had an adventure book up her sleeve. What can I say? I don't think there are many not totally splendid books of hers and this one isn't one of them.
