A masterclass in fictional exploration of gender. Very much wanting to follow the stories of Eli and Elizabeth beyond these pages, but that might defeat the purpose.

A fairly unambitious man finds himself in the body of his strong, successful wife and she in his. It is a kind of freaky Friday story satirizing the different expectations we have for men and women, but it also evolvedls into a family satire. How would you feel if you had to listen to your in-laws complaints about you?

This was an interesting read - not something I normally go for, but it was relatively short so I gave it a try.

A good story about genders and gender roles, but I felt the main focus was on relationships: how relationships form, how they evolve, and how partners feel about each other. It was also an interesting commentary about parents' relationships with their adult children - that is probably my main takeaway, especially since that is the focus on the latter portion of the book.

Ultimately, I felt like this was a series of ideas that the author connected into a fictional narrative. However, the plot is very loose - just enough to give the characters things to react to.

I will admit that I do not know the gender of the author as I write this review - the first name "Isle" is not a giveaway! Obviously the author has some perspective on gender based on their own life experiences, but this was not too apparent in the book. I do have a hunch of the author's gender, though - I will take a look after I submit this review!

Body swapping/playing out the same day over and over are generally tropes that I cause me great anxiety, but this one didn’t make me feel this way. Maybe because the characters don’t try to “get to the bottom of it” and there’s no assumption that there will be a swap back. I think that this will be a great tv show adaptation and I hope for more plot in the show. I understood what the ending was doing but it did feel a little lackluster. 3.75/5 for me.

I really enjoyed this title and felt it was a relatively quick and easy read. The premise is fun and refreshing and the pacing was solid. I felt it was nicely sentimental overall and appreciated the execution of the first person narration.

3.5 interesting narrative of husband switching bodies with wife
