Whilst the plot wasn't bad, the pacing was too slow for me. There's a lot of characters and two timelines and I felt sometimes it gets a little muddy as it blends from present to past. I didn't hate it, it just didn't excite me.

Death At The Party
Thank you Netgalley, Michael Joeseph, Penguin Random House for a copy of this in exchange for an honest review!
Nadine organises a 60th birthday party for her mother, a successful crime writer. It is also the 30th anniversary of something more sinister. Along with organising the event, she has to contend with her daughters best friend being in hospital from an overdose and keep her past affair hidden from her husband.
2023 seems to be the year of rich people behaving badly and I am so here for it! The books starts off with a death which immediately grips you. It’s a very enjoyable read which doesn’t require too much brainpower.

Thank you to Simon & Schuster Canada for the ARC of this one!
The Death at the Party is a slow burn suspense novel - more of a domestic suspense rather than a thriller. We begin with a dead body, and then we flashback to earlier, and are brought through Nadine, the narrator's day as she prepares to throw a party.
While the narrative slows at some points, I never felt bored and the stayed engrossed throughout the book waiting to see who would be the victim. There are a few different stories thread throughout, flashing back to Nadine's childhood, and touching on her daughter's life as well .I liked that the novel was really a story of several generations.
Many trigger warnings for this one so definitely take a look at those ahead of reading!

Don’t start this book before bed or you might find yourself staying up late late late to finish it! The pacing is tight and propels you forward through the book. I really enjoyed guessing and changing my mind about how it would end.
