If you’re looking for a short and brisk mystery thriller, this is the one.

The pacing of this book is very interesting. This rather short novel is just in the event of one day. The ending is shown in the beginning: our main character standing over a dying body. Then it goes through the entire day and what led to the ending. A few different things happen at the beginning, it might feel a bit overwhelming. But as it unfolds it connects each dots and it all comes together exception of maybe one. Readers really have to give it chance and not give up in the first act or two.

The mood of the book is set by the main character’s anxious emotion, which is perfect for a mystery thriller. In such short descriptions, the author managed to set the anxiety overall very well. It is a complicated day for her. And as she tries to take it under control with a help of her family members she solves this mystery. The entire time reading until the very end, the book puts you in suspense of who is going to die at the end. All the characters have flaws, it doesn’t give much opportunities to fall in love with any of them so it was not upsetting to guess.

For those who might be wondering how the entire 280 pages of this book just under 24 hours without dragging on; there is quite a few reminiscing scenes through the main character. It all ties together in the end but while reading it might seem a little out of place. But if you give it a chance, you might have found your new favourite novel.

The night that Nadine is throwing a birthday party for her mother, she finds herself in the basement, standing over a dead body. Rewinding back to the morning off, readers follow Nadine as she goes throughout her day, planning for the party and learning things about her family that she didn't know along the way. But Nadine also has her own secrets, and so does her mother.

One of the things I liked about this book was how it was told completely in a day. I found the narrative to be very well-executed and it kept me wanting to flip the pages to figure out what was going on at the beginning of the novel. There's a bunch of secrets that are revealed and I enjoyed finding them out along with Nadine.

I wouldn't really categorize this book as a thriller, but it's more of a domestic drama. The pacing is pretty slow, and at times I felt like I was just watching Nadine do. bunch of mundane tasks, and I think the short chapters helped a lot in terms of whether or not I wanted to keep reading. The plot did end up getting twistier near the end, and it made for a really good last couple of pages!
