This was ok. Something about the writing didn’t captivate me and I found myself getting distracted while reading especially during the second half of the book. However, the plot is unique and different. Unsure if I’ll continue to book 2.

Another good, semi-run of the mill romance fantasy. The premise is that our FMC, Jane, is connected somehow (we don’t know at the beginning) to Skull’s Row which is like the main hub for the weird council of warlords, called Zenith, who are in charge. This Council puts out a bounty for Jane who has been on the run from them for like 10 years and our Zenith MMC, Soren, catches/abducts her, is super into her, and they navigate her past and secrets together. The premise is not the most original, but it’s entertaining and there are enough unique elements that it stands out from other books. Also, FYI, the book ends on a major cliffhanger as it’s a two-book series.
I really like Jane as an MC. She has prior combat training, and she gets some good shots in, but she’s not able to best the literal warriors who capture her. I like it. This makes sense considering she hasn’t had formal training in 10 years so I’m glad this isn’t one of those situations where the 5’ tall heroine with the bone strength of a toothpick is suddenly able to take on 300 lb. warlords who’ve been in active combat for the past 15 years.

THIS WAS A FUN READ!! It was a dark and gritty world with two main characters that are mouthy, feisty, intense, and obsessive! I also don’t think I’ve read a book with two MCs that are as emotionally closed off as Jane and Soren are for honestly most of this book 😏 It made for some very interesting dynamics! These two absolutely HATE each other for probably the entire first half, but they’re also increasingly attracted and obsessed with each other as the story continues. The mouth on this MANNN coupled with the narration done by Anthony Palmini is just 😮💨🤌🏻🤭
Jane has a secret past and has been in hiding - Soren is tasked to capture and bring her in when she’s discovered. She attempts to run (several times) and let’s just say, Soren will ALWAYSSSS find her. Check your triggers on this dark romantasy! Buckle up and enjoy the ride if you plan to jump in!
It was so fun! Cannot wait for book 2 to release on audio!!! I know I’ll be devouring the second half of this duology!

Oof this was so good 😮💨 A lot of Romantasy books have fallen a bit flat for me lately, but this one pleasantly surprised! The MMC having empath powers was perfect and extremely well done—a nice change from shadow daddies. There were a few other unique world-building aspects that I enjoyed too.
The fact that both main characters were violently feisty made the banter and bickering top notch. The pacing was excellent. The begrudging attraction and spice was delicious.
And the SOUND EFFECTS?! Highly recommend listening to the duet-style audiobook if you’re going to read this. Both narrators embodied their respective characters with personality and flair. 10/10 ❤️
