I was lucky enough to get an ALC for this book, and I absolutely devoured it! I finished it in less than a week because it was so easy to listen to—the fast-paced plot made it nearly impossible to put down. Every chapter was packed with action, tension, and intrigue, keeping me hooked from start to finish.
This is a true enemies-to-lovers story, and wow, does it deliver. Soren, our MMC, is sent to capture Jane, and the sparks between them are absolutely apocalyptic. Their chemistry is intense, raw, and undeniable, even when they should be sworn enemies. The push and pull between them made every interaction electric, and I couldn’t get enough.
This is a spicy dark fantasy romance, so be prepared for a story that leans into both the spice and the darkness in all the right ways. It’s intense, emotional, and completely captivating.
The only reason this isn’t a five-star read for me? That brutal cliffhanger ending! I was left reeling, desperate for more. Thankfully, I’ll be picking up the next book ASAP because I need to know what happens next. If you love high-stakes tension, fast-paced storytelling, and scorching enemies-to-lovers romance, this one is a must-read!

Wow, this was so fun! I was immediately interested from the beginning which is something I absolutely need these days as I am DNFing books left and right. This one, though, was so good!
This is a fun, steamy fantasy romance with mercenaries, a badass FMC that has a secret and hidden former identity and past, and our flirty, filthy MMC [Soren] has to capture her and bring her to the “Counsel”.
Kathleen reminded me of the Auren/Rissa relationship from the Plated Prisoner series, my Holy Grail god tier series and Bones reminded me of Osrik. I started this after I finished it and what an exciting moment realizing this was not some boring story or palette cleanser. I will absolutely be reading book 2.
The audio? Anthony Palmini as Soren AND duet narration? SAY LESS! 4.5 ⭐️ and 5 stars for the audiobook.
