Beautiful novel with really timeless charecterisaiton and moral lessons. Whilst some of the passages may call into question animal cruelty, this is a beautiful read for children, that is approachable and interesting. Incorporation of french history and language makes this a beautiful novel. Highly recommend!!

loved this one, the plot was extremely enjoyable and the characters likeable. i would have liked to have read it when i was younger, it's such a lovely children's book.

This was a reread for me. I remember reading this book when I was younger and really enjoying it but I think with my age difference was the reason why I didn’t like it this time. So my rating doesn’t reflect on the book more on how over the years my taste in books have changed. When I read it at the right age group I loved it.

Read this solely for childhood nostalgia as used to love the cartoon adaptation. However, although I’m aware this is a 19’s century children’s book I still couldn’t get over how repetitive the storyline in each chapter was, and the fact that there weren’t any kind of character development whatsoever. Also, sophie’s mistreatment of animals and how emotionally manipulative her parents were by guilt tripping their 4 year old child were horrific. Wouldn’t recommend.

As a child I did really enjoy reading this book and seeing what mischief Sophie and Paul got up to. But as an older teenager I see that it is quite jarring in the way that The stories are connected and it's more like a bunch of short stories put into one novel.

This book was read for the 'Read a book in a different continent than yours' prompt for the Reading Rush
