Another dark, twisty and erotic path into the world of Beauty. This time she has been sent to the village because she did not obey as she should at the castle. There is a lot to learn here and things her and Tristan will learn about themselves. Is it really torture if there is pleasure in the pain? That is for the reader to decide. Anne Rice moved from book one into book two really well and now I am curious what is to come from book three.

3 stars not because of the writing, but because of the grotesque portrait of pleasure slavery. The writing is exquisite.

There is much that appeals to me in this story, but also much that does not. The freedom of expression is admirable. However not all of the content will be arousing for a large audience. I'm not sure what I was hoping for, but it must have been something a little different than what I have found in this series.
Not as good as the first one. The middle was slow and annoying as it switched POV's, but thankfully it picked up for the last quarter-ish.
