I didn’t like the way things were worded and the LGBTQ community and black people were discussed by some characters

Enjoyable read. Holly continues to be a delightful viewpoint character. The crimes were pretty damned gruesome - wouldn’t recommend for a lunchtime read.

Disclaimer, I haven't read any of the other novels with Holly as a character. I was advised that this wasn't necessary. While I didn't get her full backstory, I didn't find it necessary to follow the story of this book.

The case itself is typical King, it's gross, it's true horror that people could potentially be this way. The rest of the book, honestly felt sloppy to me.

This book takes place mostly in 2021 in the height of Covid, with flashbacks in 2012, 2015, & 2018.
This book pushes the political narrative of our divided country during Covid, President Trumps first term ending and black lives matter.

The case itself is what was sloppy. We have an inept police department who has very recently killed a black man during a traffic stop so the town is weary and they are run thin and are honestly just afraid to act.
While the missing people were 3 years apart, the police department missing the signs were lazy to me.

As this case started to come together for Holly she mad stupid decisions, she even knew she was making them but kept on doing it.

The end of this novel felt a bit rushed and just too clean, but again, not knowing Holly could be a factor based on other reviews I read as it was out of character for her apparently.

while this wasn't 'bad' and the case itself was very horrific, it just wasn't the best of King in my opinion.
