Stephen King has absolutely blown it out of the park with this one. The first 200 pages I found interesting and a solid foundation and after that I couldn’t put the book down. My back is sore from how long I’ve been sat not moving a muscle. Truly an incredible piece of work and the development of Holly was so interesting.
I saw some reviews on Goodreads complaining about how political the book is and all I have to say is DUH, this is a Stephen King book. Sure, he was a lot more direct with the politics in this book. Every book I have read of his, even his short stories include political themes in some way.
Holly shows the extreme of what conspiracy theories can create, even mentioning in his authors note that while the facts Rodney presents are true, his conclusions are false. It is a microcosm of America right now, pieces of truth are taken and twisted into deluded conclusions. It feels like the whole book is a subtle “wake the fuck up America”. Politics aside, the book was an incredible read and I was completely hooked.
Why does Stephen King have to let his politics and ideology seep so strongly into his books. Not all readers are going to be American for God's sake. We don't care who your president is or was and what he did. But to rant about Trump at every opportunity, go on and on about the Covid vaccine (even Fauci wasn't so verbose) and attribute every Covid case to anti-vaccine ideology just destroyed this book. It's a 500+ page book that could have been a taut 250 page thriller. Not everything has to be hammered home into the readers' mind by constant repetition. As such there is no element of suspense in the book and we all know from page 1 what the story is all about. So why beat around the bush at later stages?

Great read. Holly handled covid just the way you would expect someone with ocd to handle covid. The evil doers were beyond scary.
The plot, very good. The politics ruined this book for me. Not that I align differently, but the insane amount shoved into this book! I sighed so many times reading this book because of the stretches made to add Covid, anti-Trump and vaccines in. Did not further the plot! If you got rid of those 3 things this would be a short story. The worst part is that I really enjoyed the plot, but couldn’t give it more than 2 stars! I wouldn’t recommend this book to even my most liberal of friends. Each time characters met they started by asking if the other was double vaxed or made some comment about Covid not being real. It was just exhausting.

My first Stephen King novel! Very entertaining. I didn’t love the narrator as much as some other audio books I’ve read. The story wasn’t scary to me but it kept my interest. I will read more Stephen King.
