I listened to this book. Some of the subplots get a little lost in the sauce, but the primary storyline and the moments of humor mixed into the fairly dark subject matter are top notch.
I’m curious how this book will age, given its hyper focus on the pandemic.

Take my review with a grain of salt because detective novels are not usually my thing, but I found this one quite lacklustre. It took me a second to come up with a word that wasn't an unintended pun (bland and overdone were the first things that came to mind)
Structurally, this book suffered from letting the readers know what's going on from the beginning. If this had had some sort of supernatural element it would have been more exciting, but the bad guys are not very interesting characters and following them in their daily lives didn't do much for my enjoyment of the story. I didn't find Holly particularly fascinating either. Her internal dialogue was very repetitive, which may be realistic for an actual person, but not very entertaining to read. I know the character is also supposed to have OCD, but this is just... not what OCD is. The only bit I enjoyed was the side plot about poetry writing.
Moreover, I understand the difficulty of writing a story set right in the middle of the pandemic, but perhaps it's just too soon for me to read about it and find it in any way enjoyable.

It’s King, so the writing is great. I just don’t think I like it more than a lot of his other work. I did not read the other books that keep Holly as a main character.
