Aaah, reread this the other day and honestly, I just love this book so much! I just love all the characters and couldn't resist sharing this series with my friend, who then joined me in my fangirling. I loved the relationship between Daemon and Kat (the tension is just amazing) and how it evolved throughout the rest of the series. I would highly recommend this; lots of aliens and DAEMON BLACK! Admittedly, he is such a douche at the beginning, but he had good reason and he can be forgiven because he is amazing (see the rest of the series where he is not being a douche to Katy).

“Beautiful face. Beautiful body. Horrible attitude. It was the holy trinity of hot boys.”

Aliens. Human Girl. Small town. School. Love.

It doesn't give you much to love really, but that's the thing; I did freaking love it. The writing was simple, the characters were all relatable and despite there not being much action I was addicted to it anyway.

The only thing I wish was different was Katy. She was a great character, but a little naïve and I disliked that. But her points were gained by the fact that she's a blogger and what's not to love about a girl who reads books, reviews them and actually lives the life of a YA Cliché Paranormal book?

“Daemon: I checked out your blog.
Katy: Stalking me again, I see. Do I need to get a restraining order?
Daemon: In your dreams, Kitten. Oh wait, I'm already starring in those, aren't I?
Katy: Nightmares, Daemon. Nightmares.”

Good god this book could not have ended sooner. Really? This was only 9 or so hours long. It was so agonizingly long because I felt like I was listening to a story I'd heard before. And that story wasn't good the first time around.

I thought it would be good because there's so much positive feedback about it. But really?
People who tell you this is a better version of Twilight are lying. This IS Twilight. Lets look at some comparisons.

Awkward plain brunette. CHECK
Absentee single parent. CHECK
She's the new kid in a small town. CHECK
Meets insanely attractive guy that treats her like shit. CHECK
Hot guys family wants to be her friend. CHECK
Hot guy saves her from an attacker. CHECK
Rest of the family hates the girl for putting them in danger. CHECK
Because of the girl, enemies are after family now. CHECK
Girl thinks throwing her life away solves all problems. CHECK

These same traits could apply to either Twilight or Obsidian, just change the vampire to alien. I really wanted to like this book, but there's nothing likeable about it. Deamon is an ass, Katy is just flaky and not too smart, the only likeable character I thought was Dee and she gets sidelined while 'the men do the work.'

This is ranty, but I did enjoy the aliens and what little of their backstory is revealed. I felt a little cheated there, I kind of want some more information about that and less of the lame arguments between Katy and Deamon. I'll have to think about getting the next one.

This book had a lot of things wrong with it, but it was easy to read, and I guess mostly entertaining.
