APRIL BOOK CLUB READ - A Story Shared Book Club and Buddy Read Book Nook
I have been meaning to read this since approved by NetGalley, so when this came up as a Book Club read, I couldn't wait! Stepping Up has got to be one of the heart wrenching rom coms I have read in a long time.
Sarah has created a handful of phenomenal characters within this tale; Arthur is an absolute gem, Jory is a dreamboat, and Beth herself is a fantastic leading lady! A storyline of love, loss, life changes, and self-discovery are just some of the topics touched on by Sarah Turner. Although this could have been draining, I am delighted to say it wasn't!
Most of us within the book club failed to keep to the reading schedule and inhaled this at an alarming rate, as it was just so moreish and addictive and hard to put down. I can not recommend this enough, and no matter what review I write, I will not do this any justice at all.
The only review I can give is - READ THIS BOOK!
Thank you, NetGalley and Random House UK, for a gifted copy of this book for an honest and voluntary review. All opinions are my own.

i enjoyed reading this, but the way the romance side of the storyline progressed didn’t feel very real to me, and i wasn’t super connected to beth as a character either - however i liked the lightheartedness of the writing, especially as a contrast to the deeper themes! not a book i’ll be thinking about forever but a solid 3.5 :)

Stepping Up is absolutely brimming with heart. It is not the light, fluffy comic novel I was vaguely expecting, although there are some lovely lighter moments. It's more quietly hopeful than funny, but really enjoyable for all that.
I absolutely loved the characters - Beth is forced to grow up instantly and I could really feel the pressure and panic she was experiencing. Polly and Ted's different manifestations of grief are completely devastating at times, but so cleverly written and brought to life. And I think I will love Albert and his text messages forever.
This is such a sensitive portrayal of loss and adjusting to the new way life looks after tragedy. There are a couple of classic predictable tropes but by the end I was so desperate for Beth to catch a break that I was grateful for them. And the end itself doesn't bring things to a neat, happy conclusion, but it's filled with hope.
Graphic: Grief, Death of parent
Moderate: Car accident

A bit of a tough few chapters at the start but a very touching read that I really enjoyed
