A great way to explore grief, loss and everything in between. I liked the way I was almost crying in one page and laughing the next. Was hoping for a happier ending though.

4.5 / 5. Truly beautiful book. Deducted 0.5 of a star as it made me sob so hard that my 4 year old asked what was wrong with my face 2 hours AFTER I’d stopped crying.

Well, unsurprisingly, I really enjoyed this book about 'stepping up' and intergenerational friendship.
Beth has been jumping from one job to another, directionless in her life, but then she has to take the reins and those of her niece and nephew and is thrown in at the deep end.
This was a really heartwarming book, Beth is a great character and it was wonderful to see her starting to shine. Albert was a great next door neighbour and I just wanted to give him a big hug.
I enjoyed the secondary storyline with Jory and the relationship him and Beth had.
I also thought the author was clever with the ending, a great first fiction book.
