This book shows me how much I love Rick Riordan’s writing. This book isn’t attached to the Percy Jackson Universe and I still loved it. The characters feel so alive with their jokes and palpable grief. Cliches are dodged and the overall atmosphere is easy to fall into. I caught one of the plot twists early, but that didn’t make me want to stop reading at all. Instead I kept on going and loved it to the end. A great book about the sea, showing a connection to it that has shaped the kind of writer Rick Riordan has become.

I love all of Rick Riordan's books, but I had a really tough time getting through this one. I know this book is not intended for my age group, but I just couldn't connect with the characters and the story in general. I'm sure this story will resonate with other readers, but I guess this one was really not for me.
