I think the atmosphere of this one is its saving grace. It's beautiful and I can absolutely picture this small beach-side town and all the caves.
I was just so bored throughout the story. I didn't care about the mystery, and I wondered what part I WAS supposed to care about. It's well written, but it's slow.
Chelsea Humphrey really hit the nail on the head by noting an epilogue would have really helped. We learn about all these different characters and what drives them and how their horrific shared past has affected them throughout the years, and then when the truth comes to light, the book ends.
Instead of this being some deep mystery/thriller, it's more of a character study about how all of these characters have been affected by the tragic event, and so not getting to see what happens with all of these characters when we find out what really happened all those years ago was really a lost opportunity. It made me lose the whole point of why I ended up sticking through the story, to see what happens to all these characters after, but here we are.

Oh man I love Jane Harper. Her characters are so good, her plots weave together perfectly, the mysteries are engaging without being disturbing, the atmosphere is palpable. I’ll read anything she writes.
Bonus points for the Australian narration.

Good read. It had quite a lot going on, which could be good for some! It was a little too much for me. Still enjoyed it. The ending was going to be good, but then it turned cheesy and into a typical chick flick ending.
This was my first Harper novel and BOY, did it impress. The Survivors felt like a seriously slow burn to me but was never boring and nothing was unnecessary. I enjoyed every page.
For the duration of this book, I genuinely had no idea what the outcome would be - my detective skills are usually pretty good when it comes to thrillers but for this I had nothing. Up until the very last twist, everyone was a suspect of some description and everything was suspicious. Whether or not other readers saw the ending coming, I think it’s a testament to Harper’s talent that there were so many possibilities and yet the narrative never felt convoluted in the slightest. I couldn’t stop talking about how unsure I was while reading this one; it was as though anytime I thought I was close to the truth, Harper ripped it away from me.
The only reason this one doesn’t get 5 stars from me is the ending; I like when things are tied up to some extent or, at the very least, we get insight into what goes down when the fictional community gets wind of whodunnit. Otherwise, this was an incredibly delightful read.
When to Read - If you’re like slow-burn thrillers that keep you guessing.

Well THAT was a surprise!
But isn’t that why we love psychological thrillers?
I was so proud of myself for figuring out the killer mid way through.
But of course I was wrong.
