Ouch, my heart. This book really does a good job of playing the ups and downs of parenthood. The book is mostly about the evolution of the struggling relationship between the stepmother and daughter. It really hooked me from the beginning, but I understand why so many people gave it 3 stars because it did leave me wanting a little more. I thing being a new mother left me relating a bit more to the characters, which brought my rating up a bit. And sometimes books shouldn’t be about the most shocking thing happening because sometimes things should be a bit more realistic. I’m obviously conflicted, haha.

Not terribly well written but fast and suspenseful. Good entertainment with a minimum of thinking involved.

I have a lot of problems with this book. Mainly being... where is the feminine rage? The FMC had terrible things happen and she would be like "ok, well I guess I should just rest and then make a rational decision later". I felt like her emotions throughout the book just fell so flat that it made me also feel this way. It wasn't a terrible book, but it was forgettable.

How can a book be so cryptic and so detailed at the same time?

Man! That ending! It was bittersweet.
What if the spouse isn't who they said they were? What do you do when your spouse vanishes without explanation, leaving you with an enormous responsibility and mess to fix? When Hannah finds herself in such a scenario with only a two-word message as an instruction, she endeavors to figure out who she married and why the life of everyone she loves is at risk.
The story was suspenseful, and my opinion on Owen kept oscillating almost until the end. The execution was steady, and the characters were lovely and believable. The climax, even though not unexpected, was still heartbreaking. It was an easy, entertaining, and fast read.

This was pretty good overall. I liked the concept and the slow reveal of twists. I am looking forward to see the Apple TV adaptation and see how similar it is to the book. The ending was sooo good and yet I wanted more!
