This book is great throughout. But there's one chapter (and I won't spoil anything) that everybody that has read the book can point out as beautifully written and heart-wrenching while still being as economical with words as Hemingway is. The best part about this book is that it has the first female character that Hemingway does not under-write. It deals with such technique about its mature themes (war, death, suicide) that it's, at the same time, easy to read and emotionally appealing.
I really recommend this one.

Such a great journey this book was. Hemingway packs so many themes and explores them in depth in the span of three days. Love, war, politics, religion all an internal struggle of understanding during Robert Jordan’s mission. It was tense and beautiful, ugly and provocative. Scenes like Pablo’s revolution, or Sordo’s last stand will stick with me. Hemingway makes Spain seems so beautiful and the people seem so interesting and rich with culture. The only thing that irked me was Hemingway portrayal of Maria. I can’t help but to feel guilty being invested in the live story even though Maria seems like a very sexist portrayal of what a woman’s role is from a man’s point of view. It was hard to look past at parts but overall there was just so much I loved about the book I was able to justify that that is just how some people act or ignore more glaring descriptions.
If someone made me I could write a good essay about it, but I wouldn't be happy about it

I would have liked more of Maria outside of her relationship to Jordan.
Quite possibly the best book I've ever had the pleasure to read. I had started it multiple times in the past but put it down due to the language. An email which referenced a quote from it jokingly gave me the impetus to try it again. It was slow going at first but there was a point where I realized I was absolutely enamored with it and couldn't stop thinking about it. Ask anyone who I've had a conversation with in the past week or so and they will probably tell you I spoke to them about it. Due to extenuating circumstances I took a lot longer to read this than I normally do but it helped with the slow burn of the book. Absolutely incredible novel which I look forward to reading again in the future.

Some beautiful, beautiful passages and astounding characters, but there are many tedious sections. The climax was one of the most engaging things I have ever read.
