i will eat up anything set in night city and i hope they keep making companion books. that said, i think this was a good concept of a heist story/characters that stayed true to the game, but it just wasn't executed well. the sudden switches between povs were jarring and i imagine if i hadn't been listening to the audiobook i would've been thoroughly confused (no surprise that Cherami Leigh's narration is excellent).
i have HUGE beef with the final act which i thought was just me being stupid. then i realized how many other people were also on reddit and wikis trying to figure out what the hell happens in the last chapter and i felt better. if half your readers don't have a single clue what is going on in your finale, then it probably wasn't very well done. probably incomprehensible to read if you haven't played the game at all.

Graphic: Death, Gore, Sexual content, Violence, Murder
Moderate: Alcohol
Minor: Kidnapping, War
Would be a 4/5 if I didn't have to look online to confirm what I thought happened in the last third of the book. Lots of things are implied, but the constant jumping between characters (often multiple times within a page) made details hard to absorb, and Liam's story led absolutely nowhere. Definitely would only recommend if you've played Cyberpunk 2077.

Worth it for fans, it has some good moments dotted in there, but overall it's not the best piece of fiction for this universe.

Cyberpunk: No Coincidence really captures the world Mike Pondsmith created. Dark, sad, just a smidgen of hope like a stain of this world. The good moments are few and far in between, but almost worth all the punishment and horror in this world. The story follows a crew, all dealing with their own plethora of issues and problems, as they try to make their way through Night City. The book does a good job of showing these heists and the strengths and weaknesses that every character has, and builds-up a lot of the mystery while slowly revealing it as time goes on. I really enjoyed the characters and their own motivations, and it all made sense. It also goes into depth with a lot of Cyberpunk's lore and explains how a lot of these mechanics work, which I really liked. I think my only complaint is that it started to feel a little rushed at the end, like he was trying to keep it under a word count, and probably could've used maybe a hundred more pages or so to neatly wrap everything up. I also feel like they had a lot of mystery and such, things that I definitely want to know more about but I'm unsure those answers will ever be given. Overall, a fantastic book that I really enjoyed.
