This was a tour de force with a few twist and turns. Hats off to the narrator, she did a great job keeping me engaged. I might not have finished reading this in print. Sometimes a story lends itself better being listened to.

I felt about this similarly to how I felt about Edgerunners: It was interesting to see Night City in a different format, and there were some interesting ideas within, but I felt like they weren't expanded on in a satisfactory way, and otherwise I didn't really care or particularly enjoy it. The best parts about it were getting a little bit more information on how certain aspects of Cyberpunk's tech or the general world works.

It was okay for what it was: a stand-alone story set in a pre-established world. Fans of the games and the TV show might get something out of it, but also you're not missing much if you don't read it.

 Live Fast Die Fast

This was a very fun read!

…with a couple caveats.

First things first, if you’re new to the Cyberpunk 2077 universe I would not make this your first entry into the world. This is only something you can get the most out of if you’ve either played the game or at the bare minimum have watched the Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime.

Regarding the book.

I wasn’t sure what to expect coming in, I definitely had high expectations and… they were appropriately met!

This isn’t a groundbreaking story; it isn’t the deepest or the most mysterious nor the most action packed or anything exceptional. But it is fun and enjoyable.

This might be one of those stories that is best enjoyed heard rather than read. (I went with the audiobook version)

For one, in the audiobook, the story is narrated by Fem-V’s voice actor (Cherami Leigh) which, if you’ve played the game feels like a natural fit. It’s as if V (herself in this case) is telling you a story about something that has happened in the past. It really helps with immersion and makes it feel like an extension of the game world rather than just some side story.

The voice acting also alleviates some of the confusion in the scene switching as the “character voices” make everything much more obvious.

With regards to the story itself: it’s classic Cyberpunk.

Just a couple of chooms lost in life, brought together by circumstances out of their control. Trying to claw their way through, not for fame or glory but to survive and see another day in the bleak hellscape of Night City.

It’s tense, exciting, and mysterious!

Not too action packed but the few moments where sh*t hits the fan and all iron lets loose is a complete blast. Unfortunately, none of the emotional moments hit at all for me, it didn’t have to though. Certainly didn’t take away from the atmosphere, at least for me.

The characters have some great chemistry with each other and their unique perspectives into life and their situation are definitely cool to see. Lorewise we get some juicy tidbits about what Militech and Arasaka are up to.

Cyberpunk 2077: No Coincidences is a story made for the fans. It won’t rock your world but it’s also not some gonk piece of fiction that was haphazardly put together. If you’re looking for something fun or want some more Cyberpunk content, this is for you.

The story may not be preem, but it is pretty nova. 😉

I love anything Cyberpunk and this was pretty sick. The constant change of perspective was fun, but at times I was confused on who's POV I was reading from. Also lots of 3 letter names so got confused on who's who lol.
