Loved it. Look. It's not absolutely brilliantly written BUT. BUT! The story; the themes; the reflections on human nature and our affinity for complete destruction? Brilliant.
Enjoyed this one more than the first actually.
Brilliant ending. I gasped with horror. It would have been A MILLION times worse if I'd not had the third book at my fingertips.

Read it. Or risk others ruining the surprises!

First re-read of this book! Last read it as a young teenager, and this one, too, holds up so well for an adult reader. This really is one of the series where a 17-year-old protagonist makes sense. It is also a bit of a deconstruction of the "teenager saves the world" trope, because this is all about what it does to a teenager to be pushed into such a situation. Katniss' perspective is always a very interesting one due to what she knows and what she does not know and how her past and upbringing have shaped her into someone who thinks the way she does. I am not going to go into any more detail, as I do not want to take away from the story for any of my friends who have yet to read this, but the Hunger Games series really is THE dystopia series of the 21st century.

catching fire is such a good book ISTG like,, if this wasn't part of thg trilogy i think it still would be one of my faves????? just. the characters. the dialogues. THE FUCKING "REMEMBER WHO THE ENEMY IS". GOD. IM ABOUT TO THROW HANDS
