There were entertaining adventures throughout, but by the end there were so many enemies and heroes that I had difficulty in caring about the outcome, in spite of the world-saving stakes. Time travel writ large makes my head hurt.

I was confused with this book. I couldn't put it down, but I didn't enjoy what I was reading at the same time. Orson Scott Card has a great way of writing that keeps you engaged and reading, but this book tries to do too many things.

Less coherent than the previous books in the series, but Umbo's character development was good

The writing & good characters are all still there, but this one feels the weakest of the trilogy, to me. There were a couple parts that had, if not plot holes, big unanswered questions that distracted me. What perhaps most people would define as a "twist", I saw as heralding further departure from the main essence I had come to love about the story... it felt to me like Card got tired of the tale he'd created & tried to wrap it up in a way that would make things "fresh". (Which probably isn't what really happened. Naturally.) Still, mostly a nice tidy finish, some really interesting principles addressed, & I particularly enjoyed the first half or so. Would still recommend this series to most readers.

I have come to the conclusion that I need a whiteboard to keep track of everything in this series. Not that it wasn't enjoyable, it was just a giant pile of "HOW CAN I CONFUSE YOU MORE?!"

I still liked it and felt that it ended very well.

A mix of good and bad. Seems like it should have ended well before it did and turned into a rambling mess. So much deus ex machina. Not my favorite work of Card's.
