Loved the fluidity of the MC's gender and that outside of the one (purposeful) queerphobe, everyone else honoured it. It felt genuine and was nicely done.
when Sal gets slashed across their side and chest there was no stupidly pointed comments about breasts or the lack of anything, the injury was treated exactly as an injury and body treated as a body. Not to have the secondary sex traits being beat over my head was refreshing and I was never pulled out of the story with needless and pointless descriptions of Sal's body. It was lovely to be seen and to have a character treated and respected as I wish to be seen and respected.

I'm use to the trauma that white Cis het men have written as romance I was suspicious of the love interest, but it also felt genuine, although still have my suspicions due to the above trauma. But the banter was well written and flowed smoothly. Their interacts were enjoyable instead of cringy.

based on the description I wasn't sure I would like this...but I really did.

New fave book. I absolutely loved everything about this book. Amazing. ❤

Amazing in so many ways, it definitely lived up to the hype surrounding it that i've seen all year.

Sal is seeking a way out of their life as a petty thief and street brawler when the chance to do so appears in the form of an audition for the role of Opal, one of the queen’s group of spies and assassins. At least, this is the premise given at the beginning of the book, as you soon find out that Sal has much loftier goals and the plots are much more complex than they seem. There are so many interesting moments and intricate plots happening that discussing much of it may end up being spoilers. Give this book a shot, it's fast-paced, suspenseful, and definitely ends in a way I did not expect when I started, but made complete sense for the character growth Sal went through over the course of the book.
