This was the book I was hoping it would be.

As I've said before, I have a long relationship with Dugoni's books. Some I've loved, some I've hated (well, at least one), and most fall somewhere in between. [b:The Eighth Sister|40207839|The Eighth Sister (Charles Jenkins #1)|Robert Dugoni|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1538808531l/40207839._SY75_.jpg|62421482] was one of those in between books and that made me a bit dubious about The Last Agent. Luckily, there were no courtroom scenes. Nothing but spies and intrigue and action. And I loved it.

It seems clear from the epilogue that there'll be more in this series and I'll be right there when the next one comes out. I love me some Charles Jenkins. And Paulina, too, of course.

I obtained an ebook ARC from NetGalley but switched over to the audible version (because I'm always late finishing my ARCs) and enjoyed it even more than reading with my eyeballs. The narrator is fantastic. Such a great range of voices for the characters. I love this guy. Yes, I'm just filled with love for this book.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for making me aware of The Last Agent and hooking me up with a copy.

I absolutely loved this one! This was a great 2nd story to the series and completely makes sense on how Charles Jenkins gets pulled back in. There are rumors going about that the female agent, Paulina, that helped him escape Russia and gave up her life to do so is possibly still alive and in a Russian prison. Jenkins can't just leave her there if it is Paulina so he is now on a mission to get back into Russia and confirm if the rumors are true or not and in order to do so, he has to get to and convince, Victor Federov (the former Russian officer who was trying to track him down last time) to help him figure out if it could be true, if it is, and then help get her out of the prison if it is truly Paulina. This story is again filled with lots of twists and turns and keeps you on the edge of your seat as you try and figure it all out. I truly enjoyed this story and was engaged the entire time. This story does not read the same as the first and is not predictable in all the twists and turns either. This was another fantastic story and while you don't have to read the first one, it does help to fully understand who Charles Jenkins is and why he would make this type of a choice again and is so determined to not leave Paulina behind if she's alive. I can't wait to see what comes next in the 3rd book of the series! This are very well written, thought out, and executed stories!
The narrator did another phenomenal job this time around (same as the first book) and continued to bring Charles Jenkins to life, as well as the other characters and the entire story. You can tell the differences between the characters, hear the emotions and actions going on in the narrators voice which just really brings the story to life.

Good book, the majority of it is a cat and mouse game, even more than the first one. After awhile it gets a little tiring, but it’s a good time. I do wish it was a bit darker, feels very safe for a spy novel. Still, it’s realistic enough and is obviously very well researched. Good pulpy read.

I received a copy of this story from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Again, I'm honored to have received an ARC of Robert Dugoni's upcoming novel! It was a pleasure adventuring with Charles Jenkins once more. This one, however, fell a bit short of the mark for me. I much preferred his previous novel - The Eighth Sister - to this continuation.

This one felt like it was all about how many crazy scenarios the characters could be thrown into and escape from. I enjoyed the calmer moments of planning and strategizing because it felt like peeking behind the curtain. And there wasn't as much of the Russian culture and history in this one. Don't get me wrong; it's a very enjoyable read! It just needed a bit of a boost to push it into a great read.

I'd recommend this book to anyone who:
- enjoys a good action story
- likes spies and their hijinx
- wants a quick, entertaining, and transporting read
