Graphic descriptions of child s*x abuse. I could not stomach it and it felt so unnecessary to the storyline.
Graphic: Child abuse, Incest, Rape, Sexual assault, Sexual violence, Sexual harassment
Not my cup of tea. Too toxic. Sequel abuse seen as casual. Death seemed like another walk in the park. This one isn't for me.
Hard no. DNF! Only made it a couple chapters in. Graphic child sexual abuse and a host of other issues.

This is so bleak I highly recommend checking content warnings.
I really liked this. It was compelling and very atmospheric and a perfect summer read. I thought it was a great exploration of generational trauma and the effects of child neglect and abuse. It was very hard to read but I didn't think it was gratuitous.
I think if I'd cared for Elle more I'd have liked this more. I also was ambivalent about Peter, who seemed far too good to be true most of the time and then absolutely useless the next moment. Wallace was another character that was very hard to warm to. I felt for her as a child but I couldn't forgive the way she treated her own children after what she went through, and what she allowed to happen to them. Let's not even talk about Leo and Henry. Seriously what is wrong with those men?
If you don't mind shitty people being shitty to everyone around them you'll have a great time with The Paper Palace. I certainly did!

This could have been a good book if it did not normalize or attempt to justify sexual abuse and parental neglect.
