A wonderful book. I was caught by the timeless story and fascinating characters but the genius of George Eliot's writing and ideas made me want to explore the structure of the novel, the language and all the fascinating reflections on people and the effects of industrialisation. Can't wait to read Adam Bede.
It was ok. It touches some important Christian topics, like why bad things happen to good people, and what the consequences of sin are. But when the bad things started happening - and then they were happening for most of the book - I caught myself thinking that if I had wanted to read about bad, realistic events, I would have read the news instead. There was something off which I can't quite put my finger on, spiritually off, despite the man seemingly returning to faith at the end because of Eppie. It was an ok book and I was able to get something out of it, but I don't think I would recommend it to other Christian readers. When I found out about the author's own life, I realized why the story and the religious ending of the story didn't convince me, while falling away from the faith did. I doubt the writer was a Christian. With that perspective in mind, the story makes more sense.

3. Babele 2020 - Modalità difficile (COMPLETA!)
4. Esimio sconosciuto 2020 - (COMPLETA!)

Great read, really enjoyed it.
Didn't overstay it's welcome.
Silas is definitely one of my
favourite literary characters this year.

Had a one week break due to half term, read the last few chapters on the Wednesday back.
Took the book from Miss B's Bookshelf, was feeling bored I think.
Loved the modern film adaptation A Simple Twist of Fate.

This was an attempt at a reread from an assigned book for English class at school, everyone else got the Great Gatsby, Pride and Prejudice or Jane Eyre... Suffice to say, Silas was hard done by, I get it but I don't care enough to keep reading/listening.
I'll be honest, and say that I didn't enjoy this one at all for the first half. I guess Eliot just isn't ever going to be a favourite of mine. I'm not hugely fond of her writing style, and she's a little too dreary for my liking.
But having said that, once this finally got going, I found myself enjoying it a lot, so I think three stars overall is fair.
