I am really sad that the book is only a stand alone, because there was nothing I did not love. I fell in love with the world so fast because of the magical books, grimoires, and the magic system. In the beginning I was a little unsure about the 3rd point of view, because I am a big fan of the 1st, but I must say that it did not disapoint and I have to say that from now on I will prefer books from the 3rd point of view. The prose in this book was beautiful, even though I had a hard time to understand some times, I still enjoyed it very much. Nathaniel sarcasm and his one liners made the whole book funny, but his relationship with Silas made it amazing. I loved their bond. I was sceptical at first but in the end I really loved their companionship. The relationship between Nathaniel and Elisabeth was great, it was a slow burn romance which I love so I could not complain. I adored Elisabeth because she was not one of the characters who just sat around and waited for the man to do something or to decide what they are going to do. No. She was always the first one on her feet, she was the first who took the demonslayer and went to battle. The plot was easy enough to understand and for a stand alone book well executed. The book was action-packed, funny, beautiful, sad and the ending was a bittersweet cherry on top.

don't wanna waste time anymore with books that i know i won't love and unfortunately, i just didn't feel any spark with this one. it was so strong in the beginning but then it just had a shift--idk if it was thematically or storywise but it just felt like something changed--so that was just something i couldn't really connect with.

i feel we had built up the relationship between her, the library, and everyone in it during the beginning of the book, i think i would've been more emotionally connected to this story and would've wanted to stay on. the atmosphere was so whimsical but also dark at the same time which reminded me a lot of the world in six of crows or harry potter. but then when the shift in the story came, unfortunately, i just couldn't care less 🥲

All YA fans must read this book, despite the final pace being a little faster for my liking, if you don't count the epilogue, which was perfect. A solid plot that makes us love this book without being able to put it down. The characters are funny (the humour is really there) and charismatic, and most of them are quite well written! I'd like to see them ALL again very soon. Read on! It's worth it !!!!
