Started a little slow for me, and then I became hooked, yet eventually my attention waned for the last few chapters. It's a wonderfully told fantasy (captivating, funny, creepy, heart touching), though perhaps the ending is a tad dragged out, and I felt just wanted it to wrap up. Hard not to compare it to my beloved DT world, there are several similarities/connections which had me hesitant at first (Jack is not Jake) but it also stood out in it's own vastly unique world. The atmosphere, characters and locations are all so vivid, and so deeply explored, it will be interesting to see what kind of adaption is created when the movie is made. Also intrigued by book 2 [b:Black House|10607|Black House (The Talisman, #2)|Stephen King|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1388263466s/10607.jpg|1738813] which I will tackle next!

After an initial attempt to read The Talisman two years ago, I struggled to connect with it and set it aside. Coming back to it now with fresh eyes, I’m glad to say it was well worth the second chance.
The novel feels epic in scope, with multiple locations and a rich cast of characters. Jack Sawyer, is both brave and compelling as he undertakes a long and dangerous journey to save his mother. His strength and determination make him a memorable and incredibly liable character.
The pacing, for the most part, is excellent propelling the you through a dark, imaginative world. There were a few slower sections, particularly when Richard is introduced, which I found a bit harder to get through, especially in contrast to the intensity of the preceding chapters. That said, these moments didn’t detract significantly from the overall experience.
In the end, The Talisman turned out to be a great read. I'm very glad I gave it another try.
