We all know him to be one of the great orators and true to form, the audiobook was great. Plus you can speed up his frustratingly slow cadence to an average person's talking speed.

Honestly the best part of this book was hearing his perspective on being a dad, you can tell he loves his kids with his whole heart. And hearing him say the word "f*ck".

My mind has shifted on Obama sense I’ve read this. Assuming Obama actually did write this, it is interesting and provides us a deep look into the life of a president, however it reads like a political ad. There is nothing unique or bold about this work, nothing that strikes you. Its attempts to cater to all people is what makes it fall so short.

Quite an endeavor, but listening to the audiobook was a rewarding experience. Hearing the President say the f word was cool, too.

While I expected this book to be great, I didn't expect a >700 book about politics to be such an easy read. He takes you through his decision process for many of his major decisions from his first term. It only increased my respect for him. Looking forward to Vol.2

He didn't mention Australia once. Like at all. Witch is fine I guess but Australia fought side by side the American troops he spoke about constantly. I enjoyed his exploration of political nuance and economic policy, it was a ton of fun - for me :D

Learnings
1. America is dysfunctional
2. Bipartisan collaboration is super important
3. Read, I need to read and read and consume as much information as possible :D

Super interesting but lengthy and detail stricken perspective from a former President.

Absolutely phenomenal! A fantastic mix of anecdotes and self reflection. Obama does a great job of giving historical background to fully contextualize the events that happened during his first term. His ability to plainly explain complex economic issues like the housing crisis was particularly refreshing. I’m a sucker for a political memoir and this was no exception.
