Enjoyed this one more than the previous book in the series but it still took a while to get going.

I gave it a five because I think it is written well for the intended audience.
I don’t remember liking this book very much the first time I read it. This time, I enjoyed it much better, primarily because it had a quicker pace and was more thrilling than Queste and Syren.
As usual, the dialogue is poor and I continue to find Jenna an annoying hag but as usual the story is intriguing and often humorous. During the first part of the book, Septimus was still irritatingly whiny (he’s been particularly whiny and full of self-pity the last two books) but he seems to have recovered by the end of this story.
Angie Sage is definitely a master at creating a new world, intriguing characters, and vivid scenes but her dialogue can be so bad, I often skip parts of it as I’m reading it loud to my youngest.

This book was AMAZING. It is my first or second favorite in the series (maybe second to the first one). My only small critic is that some of the relationships at the end of the book were unsatisfying and there was much more death than in the other books. However, it had a brilliant plot, interesting characters, and it was very well written. I couldn't put it down! I suggest the series to everyone and this book to anyone who has read Syren! I loved it!
