I enjoyed Stargazer as much, if not a bit more, as I enjoyed Evernight. I love the whole theory of the wraith and the vampire. I also liked that the Gray gave us a little more background into some of the supporting characters.

Another one that scores high on my whut-meter. Seriously.
I'm guessing Bianca going on and on about The Kiss by Klimt (which I think is an ugly piece of art, but that's just my opinion) is to show that she'sactually Bella Swan sophisticated and deep? Don't get me wrong, I've always loved this for example (it's totally safe guys) and I'm sure there are a lot of people who think that's a piece of crap. But I don't compare everything that happens to it, or think about it at random times. The Kiss is a painting, not a way of life.
The thing with vampires and running water... I've heard about before, it's nothing new so I didn't have any issues with it. Until it was mentioned Bianca was in the shower. Showers = running water. Why doesn't she have any problems with that? The direction of how it flows? Cause I'm pretty sure I can't tell you which way my water is going when I'm washing my hair. Yes, for most part, it goes down. But still, if she moves around in the shower, she'd be crossing running water constantly. I know I'm taking this too far, but the reason this is getting on my nerves is because they mentioned Bianca and the rest of the Black Cross gang driving through the Lincoln Tunnel to get to New York City. Driving under a huge river doesn't seem to be a problem AT ALL. Yet crossing a small stream is. I mean come on. There is no way the laws are that strict. To me it seems the author didn't really think this through, and just thought is was a good idea to bring that part of vampire lore into the story and didn't think it through.
Another part that bothered me: Bianca & Balthazar. Yes, they seek comfort in each other, both for the wrong reasons. But she keeps on telling us she's not attracted to Balthazar in a romantic way. But where did the whole 'drink my blood baby' scene come from? Not to mention "Please say yes Bianca" ?? I'm sorry, what? I'll admit that thinking about having a vampire drink your blood does give off an erotic vibe (and I do realize that the real life version is probably not romantic or erotic at all, IF it could happen I mean) But going from sitting on the bench to a full homerun with a so-called friend, while she didn't even see her own boyfriend without his shirt on yet is kinda pushing it. The scene was only there because the book needed at least one hot thing to happen, which was hard (no pun intended) because Lucas wasn't around for 95% of the book. Oh and so not the point but I like Balthazar a lot better than Lucas.

Ho voluto dare una possibilità a questa serie (anche perché è una di quelle serie che ho lasciato da parte per troppo tempo) e provare a vedere se leggendo il secondo volume la mia idea iniziale sulla serie sarebbe cambiata. Invece così non è stato.
Se Evernight mi aveva fatto storcere il naso per via della rivelazione fatta a metà pagina (cosa che non ho proprio digerito) e della battaglia non tanto epica a fine storia (e per altri motivi che salto) con Stargazer, invece, mi ha assalito un senso di confusione totale. Soprattutto per il word building che non è stato adeguatamente sviluppato, anzi sembra che l’autrice abbia inserito riferimenti cristiani e mitologici riadattandoli per la storia ma alla fine è risultato fuori un collage mal fatto. Il che è un peccato perché la storia conteneva buone idee, a loro modo originali, ma dato che sono state sviluppate male cadono nel totale nonsense. Diciamo che l’unica cosa che ho apprezzato è stato lo stile. Fluido e semplice, adatto per il target a cui è rivolto la serie.
Stile a parte tutto il resto è stata la vera tragedia. Non sono riuscita ad apprezzare i personaggi, Bianca in primis, forse per via del gap di età tra me e lei, ma è stata dura rimanere oggettiva mentre narrava le vicende. Lucas, che nel primo volume aveva un ruolo maggiore rispetto a Stargazer da adulto qual è si comporta come un ragazzetto alle prime armi in amore (e il che ha un suo senso visto che non ha avuto relazioni amorose per via della vita che fa) e lo potrei anche capire ma quando entra in scena il suo lato da cacciatore di vampiri cade nello stereotipo del “il figo che sa combattere ma non ragionare quando è con la sua bella”. Questo avviene spesso ma mi limito a citare a prendere un passo: quello quando Bianca deve incontrarsi di nascosto con Lucas ma si imbatte in questa vampira (spoiler: in seguito si scoprirà essere Charity, la sorella minore di Balthazar). Nonostante il loro incontro segreto sia saltato Bianca decide di aiutare Lucas perché vuole impedire che quest’ultimo o che altri cacciatori della Croce Nera la uccidano perché è solo una vampira “indifesa” (e qui mi chiedo, da quand’è che i vampiri sono indifesi?). Al che Bianca suggerisce a Lucas che probabilmente la vampira si nasconda in una Banca del sangue. A questa rivelazione Lucas la guarda come se fosse un genio. Ma siamo seri? Lui che è un cacciatore e ha più esperienza di lei all’improvviso sembra essere un novellino. Già in Evernight la loro relazione non mi era piaciuta proprio perché i due diventano ancora più stupidi quando stanno insieme e se uno dei due se ne esce con un’idea l’altro lo guarda come se fosse un genio.
Per far in modo che in questa storia ci fosse un triangolo amoroso l’autrice ha voluto usare Balthazar per questo scopo. A mio parere si poteva evitare perché mi era piaciuta l’amicizia che si era instaurata tra Balthazar e Bianca, ma dato che bisogna esserci qualche tragedia amorosa ecco che compare sto dannato triangolo amoroso. (Spolier: tutto questo solo perché Bianca si è fatta beccare da Balthazar quando rientrava dalla sua uscita segreta con Lucas e quest’ultima scopre che la vampira a cui danno la caccia è sua sorella e per mantenere il segreto visto che Charity non è ben vista dalla preside i due fingono di stare insieme per i loro scopi: lui per poter andare a cercare la sorella con l’aiuto di Lucas e lei per poter frequentare di nascosto quest’ultimo. Logico.)
A mio parere perfino i personaggi secondari sono stati mal sviluppati:
-Raquel, che viene definita come amica, ma nel momento del bisogno non riceve alcun tipo di aiuto da Bianca perché è troppo occupata a pensare a come incontrare il suo adorato. E nonostante Raquel possa avere un ruolo all’interno della storia viene trattata in modo marginale fino alla fine dove invece sembra che abbia trovato la sua strada. Così di punto in bianco.
-Courtney, che poteva essere tratteggiata meglio nel ruolo di vampira stronza in questo volume diventa solo la tipa che rompe i co*****i alla protagonista a random. In più lei è una di quelle ragazze/vampire che sono attratte da Balthazar e quando quest’ultimo si fidanza con Bianca mi aspettavo che scendesse in campo sfoderando le capacità e far capire che lei vale più della protagonista e bla, bla, bla e invece si limitava a lanciare frecciatine verbali a Bianca.
-I genitori di Bianca: il loro rapporto con la figlia è completamente fuori dai canoni normali, ma tipico in un libro YA. Anziché dire fin da subito la verità alla figlia e cercare di metterla in guardia non fanno che sotterrare questo segreto. Risultato: la figlia scappa da loro. E tanti saluti alla spiegazione sulla natura di Bianca a cui è stata data solo un accenno.
-Charity, la cattiva della storia sembra più essere una pazza psicopatica e mentre leggevo della sua condizione mi è venuto da pensare se è possibile che esistano vampiri con malattie mentali. Charity può esserne un esempio visto anche il motivo della sua morte, ma dato che le è stato dato poco spazio per far parlare di sé la cosa è caduta.
Non mi dilungo oltre perché ci sarebbe molto altro da dire come il motivo per cui la preside è così interessata a cacciare gli spiriti o perché dei vampiri millenari dovrebbero frequentare un’Accademia per poter stare al passo dei tempi e imparare la “società moderna” quando, come Bianca aveva suggerito ma che nessuno l’ha calcolata, si potrebbe creare una comunità apposta per i vampiri perduti e altro ancora ma vorrei stringere e lasciare giusto qualche pensiero personale. La storia poteva svilupparsi in maniera originale ma presenta troppe spiegazioni superficiali e poco accurate per il word building che cade in una sorta di fiaba. I personaggi non sono affatto coerenti con le loro personalità e sembra che agiscano non per conto loro ma sotto la guida della loro creatrice. I personaggi secondari fanno solo da sfondo e risultano utili solo in determinati momenti. I cattivi non sembrano tali e ciò che riguarda la natura della protagonista rimarrà ancora un mistero da risolvere. E su questo punto non so se continuare o meno la serie visto il livello di gradimento che ho avuto fino ad ora ma probabilmente la continuerò giusto per poter andare a fondo su questa tragica vicenda.

This was a really good squeal and even though the story and work had been developed, so many knew things were brought to the table and there were so many twists and turns and it was just awesome.

With this sequel readers return to Evernight Academy with Bianca. Of course, this year there is no Lucas. The administration believes Bianca was ignorant of his involvement with Black Cross, the vampire hunting organization. They believe she has broken up with Lucas due to this treachery. Instead, Bianca and Lucas spend the year planning clandestine meetings in order to steal a few precious moments together. They enlist the help of Balthazar, one of Bianca's closest vampire friends. In return, they agree to help Balthazar find his sister, a vampire also being hunted by Black Cross. In addition, wraiths have started invading Evernight. And they seem to be particularly interested in Bianca.
Bianca's rationalizations regarding her continuing relationship with Lucas reflect a teen's disinclination to think about consequences and their difficulty seeing long-term effects of their decisions. Though I was disappointed with the character, I can see the truth in the portrayal. Ultimately, this sequel reminded me of how I felt after reading New Moon by Stephenie Meyer - I was so angry at the main character that I didn't want to read the next book in the series. I was finally persuaded to do so, and ended up thoroughly enjoying Eclipse. Hopefully the next book in the Evernight series will resolve some of the issues I'm having with Bianca as Eclipse helped me come to terms with Bella.

When I finished Stargazer I felt that Claudia did a very good job at making clear progress with the development of her overall series plot along with character development. The way that she starts to explain how Bianca came to be was very interesting, I just don't want to say too much for those reading. Read this series if you like something short and sweet.
