J.A. Jance is one of those authors that I know I will give me a quick read and advance her characters' personalities. It had been a while since I read the last Joanna Brady and so I didn't remember some of the characters, but Jance does enough to tickle the memory a bit without going into a rehashing of the past few books in the series.
It was an enjoyable read and even though I figured it out, it was memorable until the end. I am satisfied as to how all of the players fared.

This book continues Joanna Brady's story. The cases were interesting and led to some unexpected twists. Maybe it is more noticeable to me because I am listening to them all right in a row, but I find that background information that we already know gets repeated. In this case, the same information was given to us at two different points in the story. One of the main things I enjoyed about this story was actually a surprise case that came closer to the end of the book that was something her father had worked on when he was Sherrif. I would recommend this to anyone who has read Jance's other books. The series as a whole is worth reading if you enjoy mysteries.
Book #93 read in 2016
This not only had a good mystery, it delved into Joanna's history as well. A great pay-off!

After the high school principal disappears, Jenny finds her body up the road from their ranch, and Joanna finds that this woman had a very strange personal history. The story unfolds, involves a local artists' charity and in the midst of it all Joanna discovers some facts about her father that lead to another old case (or two) being resolved. Pretty good.
Kind of a cozy police procedural, if there is such a sub-genre. Working mom sherriff deals with teen angst, work-life balance, and the high school principal's murder. I wish mystery writers would get over the prolog-from-the-perspective-of-the-murderer and just develop the crime as the main character sees it, it adds very little. The murderer in this case didn't really participate in the story at all until the end, another flaw but probably just as well as he wasn't really all that interesting as presented. Could have been ...
I don't know that I've ever been disappointed in a Joanna Brady novel, and this one is no exception.
The high school principal is found dead - by Sheriff Brady's daughter! Doesn't take long for them to discover that the principal is not who she claimed to be. Plenty of interesting personalities, plenty of clues to chase.. another winner!

This book was surprising. The main plot wraps up with about 50 pages to go. . . There's some unfinished business from the past to be properly buried once and for all. Riveting.
Enjoyable multiple-murder mystery. A little bit frenetic; it all happens in a period of few days. The solution was a little bit of a disappointment in that it seemed too simple, but generally it seemed believable and engrossing. Joanna Brady is a sympathetic and admirable heroine, and her family is enjoyable.
A very good, interesting story, will read more of this author
It is always hard coming into a series without having read any of the previous books. This series was easy to get into though. The book also had some good twists in the story. Overall I enjoyed it.
