I understood what this was trying to achieve, it just didn’t really hit the way I was hoping it would or at the pace it needed to. The translation was well done from what I could tell!

Really loved the concept, but I do think some things got lost in translation. The overall message of some people just being destined to be in your life wasn’t lost on me, though. And as someone who does believe that I did enjoy that a lot.

The main character was also naggy and angsty which made it hard to get through at times, and some of the dialogue was straight up embarrassing.

I don't think I would have called this a 5 star book halfway through. The main character is annoying and feels like a chivalrous person, when in actually he and his best friend are completely alike. I love how the author portrays Kyoto though. I feel like I've lived there myself now. :)
