4.5 stars. I am convinced that any book that Amy Harmon writes will be amazing! She writes such emotional stories that have me crying all the tears! Her characters are always so well developed and so easy to connect with. The heartache and emotion that I felt in this story was so well written. I loved Ambrose and Fern and the slow-burn of their relationship. And Bailey! He was one of the best parts of this book. His humor, and the love he felt for life and the people in it, just tugged at my heart! I giggled, swooned, and cried in this book. The plot was very well developed and I enjoyed each aspect of this story. I did take off a half of a star simply because the beginning was a tad slow and it took me a minute to get into the story. But overall, such a great story that will stay with me for awhile!

-retelling of beauty and beast
-love letters
-athlete, soldier/ quiet shy girl
-learning to love yourself

No spice

DNF at 21%. I'm sure it's good but it's just not my cup of tea around 9/11.

Last night I finished this one and wow just wow my heart ❤ it was so sad but so happy and so full of so much. When I started this one I don't think I was going to like it, it was slow and was 3 different points of views and written kind of like from a narrator it's hard to explain. I have never read anything like that before but let me say this I LOVED IT and loved everything Making Faces delivers. I am going to try to give a review but it's going to suck because there's really no way to express how this book made me feel, or giving too much away. I think having the experience of this book without really knowing what it's all about is probably the best part, I think, because that's how I went I into this book and I will never regret it....so here I go!

I never wanted it to end, it was like watching a movie and I could just watch it all over again and again and again because it was that good. And every time I rad a quote from this one I cry and smile and just laugh at everything this book is.

The stories follows Fern and her cousin Bailey but also Ambrose this dude that lives by them and goes to school with them...well Fern had a crush on Ambrose but they were in different social status at school so she watched from a far. The friendship and love in this book was beautiful, the story of life giving you what you need at the right time and everything is done for a purpose was bad ass. I cried a few times.....

Very emotional read that I got through in one day. I thoroughly enjoyed it in the moment but had issues with several things looking back — Fern’s development into becoming “beautiful” because she got contacts and her braces off? I was hoping for a love story where the main character really is average looking, rather than “thinks she’s average but is actually stunning.” Ambrose convincing all his friends it would be a fun time to go hang out in a war zone? WHAT?! His motivation for going wasn’t made all that clear either. I thought it was going to be because his mom died in 9/11 but she didn’t and he later states the reason he went was to escape the pressure of wrestling- nothing to do with his mom. I mean I know he was young but it just made no sense! Fern not developing as a character for the entire book? Rita disappearing until her husband shows up being a maniac without any real discussion of her relationship with him (how Fern and Bailey dealt with it knowing what was happening annoyed me, and she wasn’t really brought up until she was needed for the next plot event.

A lot of God and the Bible. A lot of Shakespeare.

My opinion about this was definitely marred by the fact that I found it on a slow burn list. So imagine my surprise when it’s insta love to the max. The only characters I really felt for all died.

This one didn't hit like the other Amy Harmon books I've read. The characters fell flat for me, and the romance felt undeveloped. It was an okay book, but nothing I'll be itching to reread.

Ebook
