I looooove the book as much as I love the Netflix adaptation! The series adaptation stayed true to the book pretty much all the time and I’m so happy about that!
Tevis’s writing is so easy to get into and the story timeline is very easy to understand too. As a chess player myself (not professional, but I did competitions in school), it's very interesting to read about the chess play in the book along with the characters. Truly makes me miss my chess competing days! It was truly fun and nerve-wrecking at the same time.
I was very uncomfortable at some chapters (e.g. child molesting scene) and there were some parts that I find might be offensive to some people (e.g. the N word being used), I would really advise some people to approach the book with this in mind. It might be triggering or very uncomfortable to some people so consider this a lil warning.
But overall, I really love the complexity of the story. It’s very realistic and it shows the hardship of life and competitions. The highs and the lows. It’s just amazing. Since I watched the show before reading the book, reading it makes me feel like it was a flashback for me. Feeling like rewatching it right now!

A really good and entertaining read. Very enjoyable from start to finish. Kind of fizzles out and feels a bit rushed at the end but it does not ruin the overall impression
Realmente ha sido más ameno que la serie. Me ha gustado muchísimo la forma en que cuenta la historia de Beth
