The book disgusted me with its sexual content, additionally disgusting because it involved minors and was explicit in its explanations.

I watched the Netflix show before I listened to the audiobook. The book is nearly identical to the tv show...or vice versa. It was very enjoyable, but I have to say in this case, the tv show did it better. But I still very much enjoyed the book.

I read this nearly in one sitting, which is not exactly a compliment to the n0vel. Easy to read and compelling, especially if you know Beth through the Netflix adaptation. I think I binged the show in a a day as well.
So much of this book is taken up by long descriptions of chess games (of course), so if you don't know chess well, there's a lot of skimming you can do. Although it is a testament to Tevis that he can make a chess game read a nuanced and high stakes as a battle scene or a boxing match. (Although in most books, I skim the battle scenes and sports descriptions too).
Either way, this is a quick and interesting read that's not to challenging but has a little more depth than your average beach book.

I really enjoyed the premise of this book. A girl of the 50’s/60’s taking on the world of chess during the reign of the Soviet Union.

I gave it 4 stars only because for me, some of the writing was more “gritty” than I prefer. I am not a chess player so wondered how I’d feel about it and it truly was worth my time.
