I was just having a difficult time getting into the story. Maybe it was because I would keep thinking about Clear and Muddy Loss of Love at the same time.
incredible feminist warrior novel. great character writing and multiple perspectives, i really appreciated the character index at the beginning. really captivating and interesting fight scenes
i do feel like it didn’t dive in to the trans and queer aspect as much as it could’ve. we have characters that can switch their sex, it’s mentioned and then never really relevant again. we just kind of know they exist. i also would’ve liked some brewing romance among the main characters, there really wasn’t any at all. romance especially ~lesbians~ is a nice balm in a super violent war story. i was rooting for some Lin Chong and Wu Yong romance and got nothin. also not rlly a fan of the ending…..they just finish the biggest battle of their lives and are like “yea let’s triple our size within a few days!” like ??? take a nap maybe idk
