I found the first half very confusing, and I checked to see if I had jumped in on a middle book instead of the first. No, just confusing. I love the new world she set up in the 20s. By the end, I was fully involved in the characters and wanted more time with them. I enjoyed their changes theoughout the story.

MM - historical fantasy - white MCs - moderate steam - pov third dual - child free - class gap (wealthy MMC)  - closeted - mental health rep - forced proximity - great narration - mature MCs (30s) - military - 5 stars.

Definitely reminiscent of the Will Darling Adventures, we’ve got a lot of mystery and adventure, but add in a really interesting magical world building, like A Charm of Magpies. Essentially, classic KJ Charles and I am sad that it doesn’t appear that the series will be continued.

Audio narration was very good.

A fun listen, well written as always with this author. Liked both Saul and Randolph, and would happily continue with the series. Points only lost for the length of time the MCs spent stuck in the trap, it seemed to go on forever.
