Man this was nostalgic… hence the high rating. Loved this as a kid and still a very fun read now between the spies, gadgets, and ridiculous villains

Literally what my brain is happy to read right now.

a reread. still the same feeling.

i really thought i was going to be alex rider as a wee kid when i wrote with my invisible ink pen from the spy kit i got from the scholastic book fair wow.

i've just stayed up until almost 2am to finish the last bit of this book so i guess it's safe to say i still adore this.

practically every single part of this book is full of tension, i was so on edge, and the writing is genuinely brilliant. i love seeing great detailed settings and descriptions too tbh, and i think all of that together is what makes this book so good, for me at least.

my one gripe about this book is the Big Revelation Confrontation scene about stormbreaker. it veers in a pretty predictable, and a slightly unrealistic, direction, but this is a convention of the genre i suppose.

in conclusion, someone please start a gofundme for alex, this poor child :(

A fun adventure story to read with Thomas. He always begged for one more chapter. Had to wait language and a few intense details to make it age appropriate for him, but it was a fun read.

I used to be OBSESSD with this series as a kid, and I even read this book in Welsh! Haha I was such a nerd (still am) and I actually really want to reread this book to give me all those nostalgic childhood memories. This is fun, fast paced and badass and I would definitely recommend for kids aged 10-13!

This is a nostalgic reread for me. I can still remember the day I stole this off my sister’s bookshelf and read it in secret when I was probably 10 or 11. I loved it then and was obsessed with the Alex Rider series and anything spy-related. I thought I could write my own youth spy novel and basically tried to write bad plagiarized fanfic 😂 Needless to say I loved this series & since I still think about it all the time, I thought I’d do a reread in audio book form for some mindless nostalgia while I work. On reread (re-listen?) it’s definitely a YA novel for juvenile audiences, although I do recall the books getting darker as they progress. Can’t wait to read through the whole series again (am I just doing it to get to the Yassen Gregorovich book I never got a chance to read since it came out after I was “too old” for this series? 100% yes).

3.75/5 for nostalgia & adventure. And yes I LOVED the Alex Pettyfer movie when I was a kid despite its major book discrepancies. lol.
