This was different. I liked the beginning and the end, but almost quit halfway through. It’s magical realism, but it was so far away from believable that it was hard to get through. On the other hand, some of the writing was great, and I put sticky notes by several lines and quotes I want to remember. Ibiza, an older lonely woman, an even older hippy fisherman, a strange presence, and a portal to a different planet that you can only get to under water. 3 stars - straight down the middle.

Holy fever dream. I did not enjoy this and honestly should have DNF'd it. While I understand the author was trying to give some environmental purpose and power to the people messaging, it was too unrealistic for something that wasn't set up as a fantasy. I think if this had been approached as a fantasy maybe I wouldn't have hated it as much as I did, but since it isnt I didn't expect cartoonish bad guys and other weird things I wont spoil for those who want to read this.

There are a few good quotes, good message, took a while to fet there. Liked The Midnight Library better.
