Evil “Siri” takes over, unfortunately that sounds better than the actual execution. Loved the start but it lost me in the middle and completely at the end. The writing style, however, is excellent!

This is a weird book. To me, it’s weird in the same way that Bunny by Mona Awad is (though the stories are completely different). But while I got the message of Bunny, I’m not sure what to take away from This Thing Between Us except that grief is pervasive?
I’m really stumped on a rating here, friends. On one hand, I felt Thiago’s sorrow and discomfort. On the other hand, I was equal parts confused and underwhelmed—for a story with so many questions, the ending seems inevitable. And—spoilers here but I need to let people know so they don’t get thrown off like I did—there is pretty graphic animal harm depicted that I didn’t see coming based on the book’s description. I knew that there would be lots of emotionally heavy content since the plot revolves around the death of Thiago’s wife, but the scenes with the animal were a gut punch. I recommend skipping this one if those scenes will upset you; I wouldn’t necessarily call them gratuitous, but they don’t hold back.

I have no idea what was happening but I think I liked it?
