Oh intangible cosmic entity. You always win in the end don’t you?

Really enjoyed this book. The examination of grief/trauma and how it influences Thiago is done so well. Moreno is also able to expertly touch on issues with immigration, media sensationalism—in regard to political gain, internalized racism and classicism.
This is just a really smart novel that definitely completely subverted my expectations in regard to where the story was going and what lurked in its world.

Although a short read, the author does an amazing job describing the sense of loss and emptiness that comes with grief. This and the elements of horror make the book hard to put down. 10/10

This was a well-paced horror story that fizzled out by the end. What started as a classic tale of tech gone wrong
evolved into a waking nightmare featuring the undead, the possessed, and the mutilated.
The ever-changing horrors kept me turning the pages, but eventually the author lost control of the story, unable to tie up all the loose ends and deliver a satisfying conclusion.

As for the characters, I found Thiago to be likable and relatable. But because the story was always told from Thiago’s perspective, it was hard to get a true sense of Vera’s character. She felt more like his muse than his partner.
Diane was the only other character with some development, and her death felt unnecessary.

3.5-4*?? I don’t even know how to rate this because I have no idea if I actually understood what was happening or not. All I know is that I had a good time reading and it was super creepy for what it was. This is definitely one I’d love to reread and dissect.
