I'm not really sure I should add a review but decided to in the end. I was really disappointed but that's because it obviously isn't meant to be the type of book I thought I was buying. It will be great for fans of Midsomer Murders and, if that's your thing, you'll probably love this. It definitely isn't the gritty detective fiction I expected it to be but I did read until the end.
I am really enjoying this series. I like the characters of DI Tanner and DS Evans.
This was a twisty mystery. I figured it out, but it was still good.
This story grabs you from the beginning, a scene quite unlike many of the other murder mysteries. Eek!
I look forward to reading more from this series.

I loved the first book in this series and book two did not disappoint. This time we join John and Jenny as they investigate an unusual death linked to an historic murder case of a young girl. As events take a grisly turn and risks both of the officers the book kept me on my toes till the very end and I can’t wait for book three.
Really enjoyed book 2 St Benet's in the DI Tanner and DC Evans series. Love their interaction with each other. Great story and it keeps you engrossed from beginning to end.
2.5 rounded down, because the personal relationship -
One, between Tanner and Evans is absolutely ridiculous, unprofessional, puts themselves and the rest of the team in danger.
Jenny’s little tantrum “because of the bishop” was so immature and uncalled for, and Tanner was in the dog house. Seriously????????
And Tanner with the rest of the police station, his boss etc.

I loved the first book in this series and so went straight to book 2. I can’t believe it, but David Blake has excelled himself here. This is a stupendous page turner. There’s a serial killer who kills in very gruesome, macabre ways. There’s the fabulous maverick cop, Tanner and his side-kick DC Evans. Their banter had me laughing out loud.
The writing is fabulous. I love the short chapters which make it impossible to stop and I listened to this in one sitting! The tension ramps up as the book progresses and had me holding my breath.
I listened to the Audible version which was narrated by the wonderful Jonathan Keeble. He brings the book to life every time.
