While the premise of the book is perfect and the bones of the plot held promise, the execution falls quite flat.

I didn’t expect this book to be as heavy as it was. I thought it was just going to be a funny vampire story, not one with three immortal girls dealing with centuries of trauma and a toxic ex. Granted, it was still great, it just wasn’t what I expected at all.

I was excited to read this book, given that it is a sapphic revenge story with vampires involved. Right up my alley. I gave it a chance, but ultimately found it to be dreadfully boring. My main issues with the book were that the characters were one dimensional, the plot felt rushed, and the fight scenes were comically bad.
I had no interest in the characters. Rose was defined by the 50's housewife aesthetic. Only ever described based on the type of dress she was wearing. Always mentioned how much she loved cleaning. I find it hard to believe that someone who turned into a vampire in the 50's wouldn't be able to progress past that one-dimensional stereotype of The Perfect Housewife.
Ida liked to... make art out of dead bodies and limbs? And she missed her sister who died 100 something years ago. That's her entire personality. Every action was defined by her being rude for no reason or her being preoccupied with mutilating dead bodies.
Holly literally wouldn't stop talking about how ugly her hair was. She complained about it in nearly every chapter in the beginning of the book. It got comical. I was like, girl please move on. We get it. You crimped your hair in the 80's.
I found no reason to feel anything when the plot with Parker and Holly picked up. The readers were given no reason to care about their romance, given that they had no personality. I find it odd how Parkers personality existed only in relation to Elton. For a book that emphasizes girl power, I think that the women in the book were not given personalities or a plot that didn't involve Elton in some way.
I couldn't even read the fight scenes. Vampires are way too overpowered in this universe. Literally cutting apart limbs, ripping off heads, smashing skulls, etc. It was just comically bad that my eyes glazed over the entire scene.
Overall, I really wanted to like this book because the synopsis of it sounds very interesting. It was a good concept but executed very poorly. It read like a Wattpad fanfic. I read until the end just to make sure Elton died, but beyond that it was quite boring.

Lots of info dumping. The main character will monologue her past in her head while in the middle of a conversation with another character. I can only imagine they are standing around awkwardly in silence for ten minutes waiting for her to reply which does give me a laugh.
Aside from that the plot holes are pretty big already this early on. The girls are all 16 and so Holly still works a dead end job at Taco Bell because she can’t work a better job at 16. Why not pretend she’s 18 or 19? No one would bat an eye at a few year difference. Lots of 18 year olds look exactly the same as 16. I know people in their 30s that look 16… it’s not unheard of. You might think okay maybe Holly struggles to find a good fake ID (You think she’d figure that out in 30 years but whatever.) but then after she needs to get a new job she casually shrugs and says oh well I’ll get a new ID from a drunk at a bar. So she’s apparently been stealing adult IDs already? So why is she still telling people she’s 16 while using IDs of people who are at least 21? It doesn’t add up.

I don’t know what to say other than I absolutely loved and devoured this book! This was one of my most anticipated reads for 2021 and it definitely did not disappoint!
