Eve, Roarke, Peabody and the rest of the gang are back to solve another case; this one involving the murder of a likable accountant. The book gets off to a slow start, primarily due to the story being bogged down with too many similar suspects to keep straight, but things pick up considerably about one quarter of the way through. In fact, I’m pleased to say that although this is the thirty-sixth novel in the In Death series it manages to sustain a fresh feel. The book contains many of the elements I love most from the early books in the series: Eve and Roarke’s connection and their witty banter; Roarke’s fiercely protective and nurturing side; and big departmental ops, including Eve and Peabody used as decoys. I haven’t skipped a book yet and as long as J.D. Robb keeps cranking them out, I’ll keep reading.

There were too many suspects from too many companies working together to keep track of who was who in this In Death. I missed the gang in this too as it was mostly Eve in it. Roarke didn’t enter until 1/3 of the way through. There wasn’t hardly any banter when Eve and Peabody were working together. This just wasn’t one of the better ones of the series for me.

J.D. Robb, in my opinion, can go no wrong with her Eve Dallas series. I found with some long running series that ever so often you can have an off book, or five, but you keep reading hoping for the magic to happen again. I can’t recall if there ever was an Eve Dallas books I didn’t love. I will typically re-read this series at least once a year. The newest in the series, Calculated in Death was just as good as previous stories. The one problem with reading the book instead of listening to the audio is that I always want to read the last chapter so I can see who the bad guy is. I contained myself this time and followed the mystery with Eve and Peabody as they worked their way through the world of high finance. And who knows that better than Roarke? With some great dialogue, a mystery to keep you guessing, and another wonderful story I just couldn’t put this down. Ms. Robb is on my Must Buy list and will continue to be there because of such quality stories like this one.
It was an entertaining read. However there were many references to past events and people. Sometimes I felt a little lost. I think it would have been better if I had read some of the other books in the "In Death" series before this one.
One of my all time favorite fictional couples... Eve & Roarke are back at it.
This time an accountant is found dead apparently mugged but Eve & Peabody figure out rather quickly that it was murder. Again Eve, Peabody and company are on the trail of a murderer who is escalating quickly. With the murders involving those in the money field Eve taps her best resource, Roarke, who helps her understand the money trail.
Despite the formula or maybe because of it I LOVE this series. I never seem to get tired of reading about Eve and the oh so sexy Roarke.

A rather functional entry in the In Death series, no major character growth foe anything and a somewhat dialled in plot. Assassins and money gone bad, twisted in the sub plot of Icove film premiere.
