Predictable plot. All the usual characters get their moment on the page. Time to wind this tired series up.
start to get tired of the "suddenly he is a serial killer" and "he targets Eve cause he hates her for being awesome!" plot points.
An auditor is dead in an apartment undergoing renovation. Many people would have looked at her lack of wallet and jewelry, but not Eve Dallas. Instead, she uncovers a plot that started with covering up shady land dealings and ended in the deaths of three people in this book.
Unlike most of my other long running serial favorites, in Death has yet to get me to the point of saying, "ok, I think they are done." You would think that with the same essential formula with every novel they would get old but for me, while some have been bigger hits than others, they are still fresh and enjoyable. This novel isn't quite as good as the last but still kept me invested.
I echo other reviewers complaints that for ONCE we'd like to see Eve and Roarke ENJOY a party at the end!

A man at the library suggested this to me. I thought the title was hokey, but it was a decent mystery. Plus, there is a cat in the book with the same name as my late kitten. That sort of sealed it for me.
"Our day began when hers ended"
(Dr. Morris)
When Marta Dickenson, a seemingly loved, friendly accountant with a faithful family, gets her neck snapped, Eve is thrown into the world of numbers, money and business. A world which is much more comfortable for Roarke but nonetheless she has dig into people, all of whom ring wrong to her.
Two plus two equals four. The numbers have to add up. But what is she missing?
".... Mira would probably say something about his inner child. I just figure his inner child needs a good spanking."
He gave her comfort before she knew she needed it, and he gave her love when her life had been so empty of it for so long.

I think this is the longest I've taken to read an In Death book. Except maybe Origin in Death. This is in no way for the fault of the book. There was just something wrong with my reading mojo.
The chemistry between Eve and Roarke is, as always, through the roof. It has all the swoon moments that we've all come to love, but there's no drama. And we don't need relationship drama in every book.
Peabody is, again, rocking her pink cowboy boots and we love her for it. McNab and Feeney make guest appearances with Dickhead making a very brief comeback.
And Trueheart' s gonna be a Detective soon!!! (He's one of my favourite characters, so excuse teh squeals) Speaking of favourite characters, Yancy is back too, though unfortunately for only a brief moment.
"Shut up now."
"It was a really good sex dream," Peabody said under her breath. "Speaking of," she added as Roarke walked in the room.
"One more word, and I'll get that hammer out of evidence and beat your tongue flat with it. ...."
My only complaint is (again, with myself) why can't I still remember all the characters in these books? Granted there are a lot of them, but because I keep forgetting them until I get to at least 30-40% into the book, I miss a lot of plot points.
Spoiler
In this case, I completely missed when they decided Ingersol was one of the bad guys. I had to backtrack and look it up. One tiny change I'd have liked: I get why Anderson was the prime suspect but, a little bit more about why we completely gave up on the other suspects and decided that he was it would've been good."That's a lot of vegetables."
"It is, yes, and if you eat them like a good girl..." He lifted the silver lid on another plate, revealed a small pizza, with pepperoni arranged into a smiley face.
She tried to give him a stony stare, but the laugh won out. "You think you're cute, don't you, pal?"
"Adorable."
"In this case, you can have adorable. Ow!" she managed the stony stare when he slapped her hand away from the pizza.
"Vegetables first."
Now the stony stare came naturally. "I've pummeled men for less."
All in all, this may not be the most thrilling of In deaths, but it is solid. It gave me a very enjoyable read.
Re-Read - Definitely (almost every In Death gets a re-read from me sometime or the other
Recommend - Yess!!! (If anyone has any doubts picking it up, don't hesitate, just do it!!!)
"I won't apologize for cheating and stealing or regret those days are done. Because her I am with you, and there's nowhere else in the world I'd rather be."
"Naked on a tropical beach?"
"Well, now that you mention it."
