DNF 25% Chapter 11

I found this book through the TikToks the authors daughter had made, I thought it sounded interesting and purchased a copy for both myself and my sister.

Unfortunately this book was not it for me. The writing style was terrible so I tried to listen to the audiobook instead but the narration was the absolute worst I’ve heard. I have so many great books sitting on my bookshelves to read that I don’t want to force myself to read terrible books.

fantastic thriller novel!

I enjoyed the characters in the beginning and wondered how this story would twist into something special, and I was not disappointed!! Great read, hoping for more from this author!

This might be a 3.25.

It's labeled as a thriller, so I went in with very different expectations that slowed the story down. The second half really picked up for me and kept my interest, though.

I could've done without the twin storyline, bedwetting, cannibalism, and love story but it is what it is.

For a debut and for someone who spent so many years on this project, it's pretty solid. I definitely need to check the sequel. Of course, I jumped on the viral train and ordered this when it was all over social media.

Here are some weird comparisons I thought of while reading.
- Devil in the White City. What I loved about that book was the HH Holmes chapters and I struggled with the fair chapters. With Maidens, it bounced between the serial killer and the technical and administrative research but didn't really give us much to work with in the serial killer's.
- Dennis Lehane books. I feel like this might be better suited for his genre so people know going in that we're following an investigation.
- Bones and SVU crossover. To be fair, I've never watched a full episode of Bones, but I think I get it enough to say that works here.

A serial killer is on the loose and only the FBI agent knows about the little trinkets he's storing in each of his victims. While her team is focused on the wrong suspect, she's leading the way to uncover the identity of the real murderer and his connection to the accused.

Also, why was Jasper the nickname for the killer?

Amazingly written

I got so entranced by the book that it took me less than two days to read it whole, going back and forth between some of the plot points once I got more information. All the characters’ POV were intriguing and fascinating. Can’t wait for the sequel!

Okay Tik Tok. Ya did good on this one. Richards writing is excellent in setting up this creepy thriller but beware it gets a little gory at times. Definitely leans heavily on the police procedural side of the investigation.

My favorite aspect was how Christine Prusik had dealt with a life changing experience and how that was connected to the case. I doubt they’d have a forensic anthropologist doing the work she did, but I think the story was true to the discrimination women face in STEM fields.

It’s good but it’s a little overhyped.

I thought the writing was particularly good and descriptive in new ways, even with repetitive actions. Great crime thriller! Doesn’t have a big reveal or too much shock value but it doesn’t try to. Can’t wait to read the next one!
