Good, fun, easy read. Not as good as the first; I think it suffers some from second-book syndrome.
funny
lighthearted
mysterious
medium-paced
I enjoyed tis book more than #1 in the series, possibly because there was quite a bit more action. I like seeing the characters in action and find it the best part of the writing. I still struggle with being too far ahead of the characters when it comes to the plot twists, waiting for the book to catch up to the obvious conclusion but I found this installment fun enough summer reading and I've put the soon-to-be-released third volume on hold for as soon as the library gets their copies.
A nice continuation of the series. Carriger does interesting things with the mythology of the steampunk alternate reality she set up in Soulless. It's clear, though, that giving atmospheric details about the tech and fashion and even physics of the universe is of equal importance to the mysterious circumstances that drive the action. That wore me out after a while, especially when the action dragged through the central part of the book. I also wished she'd either commit to the romance, or leave out more of the references to marital goings-on. But the characters and the incredibly detailed world she's built are compelling enough to keep me interested in the series.
Loved it and then the end made me so angry! Didn't see it coming at all and hate the way a certain Alpha is handling it (I've already started Blameless).
Damn cliffhangers but already listening to the next one. Love this series.
A wonderful follow-up to Soulless! Alexia returns full force with her wit, a new parasol, and new and old friends to take on not only personal challenges, but also those that come with her new position on Queen Victoria's Shadow Council. The fast-paced adventure follows a frightening new threat to the supernatural community through England and into Scotland, a locale which allows Alexia to learn more about Lord Maccon's history. It ends with quite the cliffhanger!
Once again I wish that Goodreads allowed half stars. This was a strong 3.5 for me. My only complaint is that the affected lanquage prevents me from really falling into the book like I want to. Otherwise, I enjoyed this very much. Looking forward to the next one!
