I love everything about this series. It's Jane Austen mixed with urban fantasy, steam punk, and British humor. I laugh out loud frequently while reading it and have recommended it to just about everyone I know.

The first book of the Parasol Protectorate series was simply fun. Smart fun, with its skillful blending of Jane Austen, Highlander, and steampunk along with its deft characterization of vampires and werewolves, but mostly a romance and a romp. This book gets a little more serious, and the ending is a shocker. You could chalk it up to "the course of true love never did run smooth," but it's got to eventuate in a bigger discovery about Alexia's powers and how she is capable of using them.

Madame Lefoux is a great addition to the cast of characters, and it's lovely that Alexia doesn't deny her attraction to her, but I do hope she doesn't give in. It would be her death sentence, I think. Imagine having a jealous husband with very large teeth.

Many thanks to Molly Eskridge for introducing me to these books!

I believe I really need the next one in my possession. I knew I'd like these books but I didn't know I'd really really like bordering on love them. The ending to this one!
I think the only thing I didn't particularly care for though was the amount of tech speak in it. I just kind of skimmed over those parts so it wasn't a huge nuisance. I'm just not a techie and thinking about it makes me a little crossed eyed.
Also, I think it's time for me to embrace my inner Regency/Victorian Englishwomanness and just go on and speak exactly like Lady Maccon would. You've been warned.

Well, i really struggled with this one.

While the first book took me a beat to get into, it ultimately was a hilarious and smart time, so imagine my surprise that this book went from okay to worse and even worse by the end.
Even though the MC is smart and sarcastic, every other character, aside from the Beta Professor, are completely horrible. The alpha husband is only interested in a singular use for his wife, he never speaks to her or listens to her, and every interaction they have feels distinctly not consensual. Which is weird.

Then there is every other wolf male who spends an enormous amount of time hitting on her. Add that the inventor(female/gay) who is also shamelessly flirting/taking liberties upon her person. Overall i feel a bit traumatized and sexually harassed on behalf of the MC.

Then there is her problematic ‘best friend’ (she who wears the terrible hats) who, while hilarious most of the time, is completely horrible and self centered and ridiculously dramatic and a horrible friend. I cannot imagine why there two were ever friends.

There is also the dreadful half sister. I suppose she lives up to her reputation. Its very upsetting though, that not one of the people who are supposed to care about the MC sticks up for her, and in fact seem to find the verbal sparring as an irritant.

There is a ride on a dirigible, but it is sadly doesn’t add much to the story. There is a semi interesting mystery to solve, and unfortunately i guess that is the best thing this book has going for it.

And don’t even get me started on that ending! What a dunderheaded Neanderthal! Enhanced smell? The fact that he is human when he touches her? The fact that her entire purpose in existing is to be his receptacle? Let’s face it, at this juncture, its not like he married her because he likes her personality, or even acknowledges her as a person. Humph! It sounds like i hate him! In the first book i enjoyed him very much. However, he has really let me down here. What an Idiot!

I do hope the series takes an upswing soon.

I like that this explores more into not only Conall's history, but also into preternaturals.

Omg, that ending.

I liked this book. A lot in fact. I would have given it four stars, but the end of it pissed me off so much, SO MUCH, that I can't even. I know there's another one, which I'll start right away. But a certain character is going to have to work extremely hard to get back into my good graces now.

wonderful...love the concept and the characters

I loved it...can't wait to read the next one!!! Breezing through this series!

So, I LOVED [b:Soulless|6381205|Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1)|Gail Carriger|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1314020848s/6381205.jpg|6569140] and really liked [b:Changeless|6933876|Changeless (Parasol Protectorate, #2)|Gail Carriger|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1292566141s/6933876.jpg|7165488], but now I just enjoyed [b:Blameless|7719355|Blameless (Parasol Protectorate, #3)|Gail Carriger|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1293436281s/7719355.jpg|10463674]. It didn't blow me out of the water. Sometimes that happens when you read too much of a series back to back. The clever turns of phrase start to get repetitive rather than fun and unexpected. I felt like things alternately didn't move fast enough, and then jumped all over the place. Alexia lost much of her common sense that she had in the first two books, and I hope it returns in book 4.
